OK, so you don't like the rhyming verse, that's ok, because it's a lot harder to write than the alternative... I've been trying my hand at some "modern" poetry lately... Most of the mainstream stuff I've read makes me want to wretch (much like most modern politicians and "rock" bands), but some of it's decent and just as titillating as some of the Romantic-era poetry I like best... In this here little ditty, I reveal my true nature... I am a dissenter because I care...
And Fuck You Too, Stephen Harper
the lies of masters
are gospel
the rat race is a marching band
a military parade
american dream seekers march
not knowing
they need not seek
what they already possess
discipline!
all we are taught is discipline!
follow the leader
monkey see monkey do
trained by the elders
the masters
to jump through hoola-hoops
and smoke cigars
and shake people's hands
and just like the monkeys
we do not understand
why we do what we do
all we know
is that
we will get some reward
at the end of the day
if we have discipline
and do
what we are told
[and be what we are told]
where is the human
in the american dreamer?
where is the unprecedented
hand-carved
creation of god?
where is the voice
that can be mistaken for no other?
where is
the american dream?
it is unreachable
it is a myth
and an addiction
and a way
to reward discipline
to keep you in line
predictable
not "in line" as in making sure
you don't go around
stabbing killing raping people
that is just
fucking stupid
that is just
not our true nature
you don't see babies
going around
stabbing killing raping people
only elders
only masters of might
only our emperors
those who program
our protocols
our parameters
in our schools
in our societies
we are deftly
lead astray
those who rule us
are some of the worst
of those
that are among us
most plumbers
would make better presidents
than our presidents
and fuck you too
